Shopping Finds:
There are many shopping sites in Accra; Osu, Makola Market, the market by the Arts Center. Osu is Accra’s main shopping and wealthiest district. Makola Market is Accra’s most popular market. It includes stores, informal stalls and walking vendors. You can find every type of goods, especially of textiles. Other popular markets are Kaneshie Market.

For arts and crafts, try the the "Tetteh Quarshie Art Market" at Tetteh Quarshie Interchange.

TETTEH QUARSHIE ART MARKET, ACCRA-GHANA. (GLOBAL HANDICRIFT ASSOCIATION)The art market is located at the west side of Tetteh Quarshie inter-change in Accra and it is about 3 kilometers drive from the Kotoka international airport.  Accra, (new) Inter Change (Oppos. "Hotel de Koufur" and Shopping Center "Shop Rite") on the right site, when you come from Legon after the Night Club turn right.

You will find prints, paintings, wood arts and much more. Have a chat with the artists! Enjoy a drink at the Drink Bar. At the Centre Of National Culture or Arts Center, you will find a more varied selection of arts and crafts in wood, leather and metal and a huge textile market.

National Cultural Center, known popularly as the "Arts Center" near the Independence Square is an overwhelming but well-stocked option.

A warren of stalls selling arts and crafts and known simply as the Arts Centre, this is the place to shop in Accra and the most visited site in the country. The level of aggressive hassling may make you want to keep your cedis in your pocket but if you have the patience and wherewithal, you can come away with good-quality handicrafts from all over Ghana.

Smaller curio markets can be found around the city.

Wild Gecko (near the Tetteh-Quarshie Interchange, off the Kwame Nkrumah Motorway Extension sells a variety of crafts, upscale curios, furniture, and batik clothing. Be sure to check out the extensive collection of Christmas ornaments, including Adinkra symbols carved into dainty souvenirs. Down the dirt road from Wild Gecko are further several smaller but well-stocked pottery and craft stores.

For a more modern shopping experience, options include:

  • The Accra Mall, off the Liberation Road
  • The A&C Shopping Mall, East Legon
  • Palace Shopping Mall, situated on the Spintex Road
  • Shaaba Shopping Mall, off the Motorway Extension

Great atmosphere, the lobby is all dark wood, leather sofa, campaign furniture and ceiling fans. The pool and gardens are nice, the Western-style buffet is excellent, and the rooms are small but well-appointed, most with balconies. Check-in desk in the foyer next to concierge - complimentary fruit juices served upon arrival!!Porter service is available ($1 Tip)
